Global Health Corps (GHC) is a leadership development organization focused on building the next generation of diverse, disruptive global health leaders. GHC is seeking fellows from a wide range of backgrounds, geographies, and expertise. Through a one-year paid fellowship program, fellows provide the expertise and leadership potential needed to fill capacity gaps in global health.

About Placement Organization

Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation Uganda (Baylor-Uganda) is a national non-profit child health and development organization providing family-centered pediatric HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment service. Baylor-Uganda also provides health professional training and clinical research.

Baylor-Uganda is committed to providing high quality, high impact and highly ethical pediatric and family-centered health care, health professional training, and clinical research focused on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition, and other conditions impacting the health and wellbeing of children and families worldwide.

Position Overview

The E-Learning Officer will be based in Kampala to develop and monitor the functionality of Baylor-Uganda’s e-learning system for staff development. The Officer will also develop learning objectives and provide e-learning support services to Baylor-Uganda staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an e-learning platform to provide in-house training activities across the various units of the organization
  • Develop work plans, budgets and reports for human resources information system (HRIS) staff across all Baylor-Uganda regions
  • Maintain content on e-learning system and disseminate to staff to promote staff learning
  • Create a database of e-learning trainers and institutions both locally and according to the different professions and training needs within the organization
  • Maintain integrated talent development management system running on the Baylor-Uganda HRIS platform
  • Monitor the implementation of a mentorship and coaching program between supervisors and staff
  • Develop course and impact evaluations and process resulting data
  • Develop an e-library management system that will allow staff to borrow books online and link the library to other e-libraries to broaden the scoop of readily available articles, journals and books
  • Conduct HRIS usage audit to establish compliance with HRIS usage guidelines
  • Prepare system-generated awards to all learners at end of course

Required Skills and Experience

  • Analytical and decision making skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Proficiency in MS office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), data collection, validation and analysis
  • Demonstrable skills in programming
  • Experience in system installation and management
  • Experience and/or understanding of network design, management and security, and monitoring
  • Skills in documentation and information management

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Degree in computer science, IT, or library science majoring in programming or business computing
  • Professional qualifications in CCNA, Microsoft MCSE 2000, MCP, MCSA, MCDBA, CWNA, and CCIP or other relevant qualifications
  • Two years of work experience in IT and HRIS management

Fellowship Logistics

During the fellowship year, all fellows are provided with:

  • A living stipend of $550/month
  • Housing and utilities
  • Health insurance
  • A professional development grant of $600
  • An award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year
  • Travel costs covered to and from placement site, training and retreats

*Note: The living stipend and the completion award may be paid out in USD or local currency, as determined by the placement organization.

Living and Working in Uganda: Fellows are provided with housing and utilities during the fellowship year. Housing arrangements vary based on the placement organization and location within the country. Fellows placed at Baylor-Uganda will be provided with housing in Kampala, an urban center and capital of Uganda.
