I. Position Information

Position title: Logistics Officer – Maintenance (Diesel Generator/Trash Pump)

Duty station: Bentiu, South Sudan

Direct Supervision: Operations and Logistics Officer

Overall supervision: Head of Sub-office

Duration: 3 months, with possibility of extension

Job Type: Consultancy

II. Organizational Context and Scope

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Sub-Office and direct supervision of the Operations and Logistics Officer in Bentiu, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Manage and conduct routine testing, diagnosing, disassembling and repairing defective mechanical parts of all IOM diesel powered field generators and trash/extraction pumps for PoC retention basins and canals.
  2. Monitor and performs routine maintenance checks and performance of all field diesel powered generators and trash/extraction pumps and conduct necessary adjustments on such things as fluid levels, belts, changes of filters and oil.
  3. Examine IOM Light vehicles (4X4), HINO Trucks and Dump trucks to determine the nature and extent of malfunctions or repairs required, locate malfunctions using test equipment, dismantles faulty assemblies (engine, gear boxes, injection pumps, transmission, differential) using tools, dismantles faulty assembly, repairs, tests and/or replaces parts of these assemblies, and assembles/adjusts and tests them prior to reinstalling on motor vehicles.
  4. Repair or replace shoes, pads, drums, hoses, calipers, cylinders, and if required, heavy-duty air brakes and leaf springs of all motor vehicles (light driven vehicles (LDV), HINO trucks and Dump trucks).
  5. Flush radiator, replace hoses and thermostat, repairs or replaces radiator and water pump, fan drives, air intercoolers and oil coolers for all field diesel generators, PoC trash/extraction pumps, LDVs, HINO trucks and Dump trucks.
  6. Repair, overhaul, maintain and service drive, train and final drive, hydraulic transmissions, power take-offs, vehicle brake systems, wheel-mounted vehicle suspension and steering.
  7. Perform auto- electrical repairs or replace fuses, batteries, lights, instruments, warning devices, controls and switches, computer controls, modules, alternators, starters, and defectives cables and wiring as required, including welding and cutting/joining metal parts and ensures that all field diesel generators, trash pumps, LDVs, HINO trucks and Dump trucks are operational all the time.
  8. Perform hydraulic repairs or replaces pumps, hoses, valves, winches and cylinders for all IOM motor driven equipment.
  9. Conduct daily checks on all field diesel powered generators, trash/extraction pumps, LDVs and trucks and provide assessment reports highlighting details of the spares required and raise PRFs to be shared with Juba Logistics and Procurements.
  10. Use IOM template, provide narrative weekly report highlighting accomplishments, status of the field generators, trash/extraction pumps, fleet, spares catalogue and any follow-up or support required;
  11. Provide logistical support mainly shipment of fleet spares, creating and management of catalogue for motor powered spares in stock, advice on re-order level and conducting regular stock take;
  12. Directly liaise with Operations and Logistics Officer and Head of Sub-Office regarding all local procurement, Logistics and service requirements, in order to consolidate service/procurement requirements. Generate reports as necessary, propose and implement strategic adjustments towards increasing the effectiveness and accuracy of Logistic activities.
  13. Ensure that appropriate record is kept for IOM fleet, field generators and trash/extraction pumps and ensure the assets are located accordingly and used in IOM's best interest and regularly upgrade inventory list.
  14. Manage, and supervise staff under your direct supervision and responsibilities.
  15. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

IV. Competencies

V. Education and Experience

a) A diploma in Auto Mechanics from an accredited technical institution; b) three years of work experience as diesel generator, trash pump, LDVs and heavy duty truck mechanic in a recognized Workshop/Organization; c) operational experience in emergency logistics operations; d) valid driver’s license; e) general knowledge of diesel powered LDVs, HINO trucks, Dump trucks, generators and trash/extraction pumps; f) previous work experience with the UN, IOM, local and/or international NGOs is an asset; g) computer literacy (MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook).

VI. Languages

Good knowledge of English is required and thorough knowledge of Arabic and other local languages is an advantage.
