PSI seeks entrepreneurial, dynamic candidates with significant technical expertise in marketing within developing countries for the position of Marketing Technical Advisor. This position will support a UNITAID-funded project to introduce HIV self-tests in three countries—Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This will require 100% level of efforts over six months. After this time, the level of effort will be reduced to 30% in order to sustain support during implementation of HIV self-test marketing strategies developed in the project’s first six months. The remainder of the position’s LOE (70%) will provide marketing technical assistance to other projects in the southern Africa region.
This position will report to the Project Director with dotted line management by the Regional Director for Southern Africa. The position has a tentative start date of September 2015.
This position will be based in Harare, Zimbabwe with 30% travel in the Southern Africa region.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
UNITAID Marketing Advisor
- Lead the development and implementation of a cohesive and comprehensive regional marketing strategy to launch an HIV self-testing product in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
- Work closely with in-country marketing teams to tailor the regional strategy appropriately in each country context
- Co-lead the development of a sustainability plan for the product taking into account the total market
- Support development of a market research agenda to inform marketing planning.
- Develop monitoring systems to ensure appropriate execution of the marketing strategy regionally and at country level.
- Provide ongoing mentorship and support to country marketing teams as they launch the HIV self-test product.
- Liaise with sales and distribution teams in country as required by local marketing teams
- Assist with the capture of learnings and dissemination to key stakeholders
- Travel to project countries to provide on-site technical assistance to the design and implementation of project activities, including with national and international partners.
- Ensure adherence to PSI’s global standards and procedures
- Liaise with key stakeholders involved in the project at all levels to inform them of marketing progress and approaches as required.
Regional Marketing Support - Provide strategic, technical guidance and direction to marketing activities in Southern Africa, in collaboration with the regional marketing advisor.
- Build the capacity of in-country technical teams to develop and implement robust marketing plans across PSI’s products and services portfolio.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
- At least 7 years of demonstrated successful experience in designing and implementing marketing activities
- Experience in new product introduction preferred
- Prior experience in the use of human centered design for public health interventions
- At least 5 years working in developing countries settings
- A Masters degree in communications, marketing, or similar, or a bachelors degree with at least 5 years of additional relevant experience.
- Experience building capacity of civil society and/or government entities in marketing
- Knowledge and implementation of behavior change theory
- Experience with applying commercial marketing, human centered design and/or behavioral economic approaches a plus
- Creativity and entrepreneurial outlook.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal and cross–cultural skills
- Be a team player
- Be able to motivate people without direct authority
Have experience working in multi-national/regional activities involving coordination with multiple program partner institutions
- Be able to work in to deadlines
