Background: The International Rescue Committee has been working in Somalia since 2006, providing essential services to conflict and disaster affected communities. The IRC has been operational in Central Somalia (Mudug and Galgadud regions) and Mogadishu implementing interventions in the areas of livelihood & resilience, Governance, protection, GBV, WASH and health reaching out to more than 200,000 conflict and drought affected people.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Under the immediate supervision of the Field Manager with Technical reporting to the WPE Senior Program Manager, the WPE Officer will implement activities, with special focus on ensuring supervision and capacity building of the Local Partners and that survivors reporting GBV incidents to Garowe General Hospital’s staff have access to competent, confidential and compassionate care according to international standards and guidelines. The WPE officer will also ensure that survivors are referred to other relevant service providers in the area, and will supervise, in collaboration with the Local Partner, the implementation of awareness raising activities in the community.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in community development or other closely related fields.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali.
- Minimum two years of GBV-related experience preferably in Somalia.
- Good attitude towards GBV survivors.
- Knowledge of international human rights standards, and familiarity with customary laws and legal developments, especially in Puntland.
- Experience working in insecure environments on politically/socially sensitive topics. Willingness to frequently travel to other field locations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and without daily supervision
- Willingness to travel within Somalia;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Email application software
