The Research and Data Analysis Adviser will be based at Progressio Somaliland’s office and work alongside key staff in the organisation, coalition members and with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, on a daily basis, to support the implementation of the ‘Amplifying Civil Society Voice on Gender-Based Violence in Somaliland’ project. You will be taking a lead on research-related activities by training 12 CSOs and providing on-going mentoring and on-the-job coaching.
Due to the context of this placement, previous experience of working with NGOs on gender-based violence is highly desirable.
The successful candidate should have a Master’s degree in social or community development, development studies, or another relevant discipline.
A minimum of five years’ experience within the NGO sector is essential. You should have three years’ experience in organisational capacity building and research, particularly on gender-based violence. Experience in training/facilitation methodologies and direct training, particularly on evidence gathering through research and analysis; report writing to donors, and working in a resource poor environment is also essential.
An understanding of the issues facing a post-conflict society; of the role which NGOs play in democratisation, and of areas linked to gender-based violence is essential. You should also have skills in gender mainstreaming; coordination/networking with like-minded organisations; participatory monitoring and evaluation methods, and knowledge of social research tools and methodologies (qualitative and quantitative). Good team building skills and a consensus-led approach to work; analytical and prioritising skills; interpersonal and communication skills, including a good command of English (spoken and written), and the ability to plan and implement own work is also essential.
A willingness to undertake road travel in Somaliland; cultural sensitivity in an Islamic/Somali environment, and a personal commitment to learning the basics of the Somali language is required.
